Statistics

Teen Pregnancy

I am not going to take a lot of your time today, but I just need to convey this thought.

I’m normally not into statistics.  I grow bored very quickly when I start to see a lot of numbers on a piece of paper.  I also know that numbers can be manipulated to fit anyone’s agenda.    Still, I ran across some numbers lately that I can’t stop thinking about.

A recent report found that the rate at which teenagers are having babies varies significantly from state to state and from race to race.

According to the report, Arkansas led the nation in 2008 with 61.8 births per 1,000 girls aged 15-19.  Why am I not surprised?    I don’t have the entire report in front of me but I would not be shocked if Mississippi and Alabama were not far behind Arkansas.

Pregnancy Rates

Meanwhile, in 2007, the birth rate among Hispanic teens was 81.6 per 1,000, which is nearly TRIPLE the rate for white teenagers.  I guess we have the good ole Catholic Church to thank for that one, huh?

When are people going to get their heads out of their butts?

Are we some kind of Third World nation?

  1. Being part of a minority myself I do know that religion has a big influence in how parents teach their kids about reproduction.

  2. tell me about it! I was raised a Catholic which basically teaches you to go out and find out from your schoolmates about sex….

    1. I was on Depo after my first child for 6 years and gained close to 70 ponuds. My sister gained about 40. You have no monthly visits, but think about it Is that right for a woman to miss her monthly body cleansing? It also took away my willingness to have sex, and the doctors inject you in the butt, My husband and I used the rhythm method when I finally became fed up with the weight. Then came child 2. After she was born, my doctor wanted me to try the ring. I couldn’t imagine having to take it out once a month and it popping out in the toilet by accident. Then we lingered on convincing my husband to have a vasectomy. He didn’t. I just had child number 3 two weeks ago, I was going to get an IUD..that is until my sister lost hers this summer. Don’t ask me how, but that was scary enough for me to say no way. I was reluctant about having a foreign object in my body anyhow. My doctor wants me to get a tubaligation; but don’t think I wanna. If you’re sure you want it short term, then the ring or mini pill has to be right for you.even condoms or spermicide..it is short term afterall.

      1. Thanks for sharing, Gam. Obviously, there is no one magical solution to birth control. A lot of it is trial and error, hopefullly not too many “errors.” But I can tell you from personal experience that a vasectomy is the way to go!

  3. Bacterial Vaginosis- help soothe ithncig.?I have already gone to the doctor and gotten an exam done. There were signs of yeast and bacteria so I am being treated for a yeast infection and bacterial vaginosis. I took one pill they gave me, and have another that I am taking 3 times a day, and a cream that I am supposed to use. But the pain/ithncig is unbarable right about now. It’s 4am and I’m awake and haven’t gotten any sleep at all. I was wondering if there was anything I could either soak in or apply to the area to stop the ithncig and uncomfortable feeling so I can actually function Thanks.Gah , i really want this to go away so I’m scared to start using something extra that might cause the meds or the current cream not to completely cure it . I need this to go away now! Thank you for your answer, I may try that.

    1. So sorry that you’re going through this, Mimanshu! I can really feel for you. Hang in there, honey…..
